A Deep, Heartfelt Devotional Journey
"But you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel." Psalm 22:3 "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 OPENING PRAYER O Ancient of Days, Eternal One Who Was and Is and Is to Come. Before time even began, You were. Before the foundations of the earth were laid, You existed in perfect glory, majesty, and holiness. You are the One whose hair is white as snow, whose throne is ablaze with fire, whose very presence causes the seraphim to cry out, "Holy, holy, holy!"
You are the God who inhabits eternity, yet You have chosen to make Your dwelling place with us regardless of how frail, finite, and fallen we are.We come before You now with hearts full of wonder and worship. We come as living stones being built into a spiritual house, as temples of the Holy Spirit, as tabernacles fashioned by Your own hands to contain Your presence and glory. We come not in our own righteousness, but clothed in the righteousness of Christ. We come not by our own merit, but by the blood of the Lamb that has opened the way into Your holy presence. Oh Father in Jesus great name make us, to be living tabernacles of praise. Let our lives be dwelling places where Your glory rests, where Your presence mightily abides, and where Your great name is exalted. Let worship flow from our lips like streams of living water. Let our hearts be altars where the fire of Your love burns continually. Let our very beings become sanctuaries where You are enthroned, honored, and glorified. We surrender ourselves afresh to You, Father the Ancient of Days. Come and inhabit our praises. Dwell in our worship. Make Your home in our hearts. Let us be unto You what the tabernacle of old could never fully be, a living, breathing, worshiping dwelling places for the Most High God in the name of Jesus, our Great High Priest, we fervently and do humbly pray.Amen.
PART ONE: THE ANCIENT OF DAYS
The God Who Existed Before Time
"As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire." Daniel 7:9
In the prophetic vision granted to Daniel, he beheld a sight that transcends human comprehension, he beheld the Ancient of Days seated upon His throne. This title, used only three times in all of Scripture, reveals something truly profound about the nature of God. He is not merely old; He is ancient beyond measure. He existed before days were even created. He is the One who spoke time into existence, who set the sun and moon in their courses, who ordained the rhythm of day and night. The Ancient of Days is the God who was before the beginning. When Genesis opens with "In the beginning, God created," we must understand that God Himself had no beginning. He simply was. He is the great "I AM!" The self-existent, self-sufficient, Eternal One who depends on nothing and no one for His existence. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Now consider the weight of this truth: The God we worship is not bound by time. He does not age, nor does He grow weary. He does not change with the passing of seasons or the turning of ages. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Selah.
While empires rise and fall, while civilizations come and go, while generations are born and pass away, the Ancient of Days remains unchanged, unmoved, undiminished in His glory and power.
His clothing is described as white as snow, a symbol of His absolute purity and holiness. There is no stain, no blemish, no shadow of turning in Him. His hair is like pure wool, white and radiant, speaking of His wisdom, dignity and integrity, His eternal nature. His throne is ablaze with fire, for our God is a consuming fire, ever holy, righteous, and just. The wheels of His throne burn with eternal flames, indicating His omnipresence, His ability to move throughout all creation, His sovereign rule over all things. This is the God whom we serve. This is the One we worship in spirit and truth. This is the Ancient of Days who has chosen to dwell with us, even to make His home in us, and to inhabit our praises.
The Eternal Judge and King
"I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed." Daniel 7:13-14
The Ancient of Days is not only eternal; He is also the supreme Judge and King.
In Daniel's vision, we see the Son of Man, Jesus Christ approaching the Ancient of Days and receiving from Him all authority, dominion, and glory. This scene depicts the exaltation of Christ following His resurrection and ascension, when He was seated at the right hand of the Father and given the name above every name. The Ancient of Days sits in judgment over all the earth. His eyes are like a blazing fire, penetrating the depths of every heart, seeing every thought, knowing every motive. Nothing is hidden from His sight. No secret escapes His notice. He judges with perfect justice, with complete knowledge, with absolute righteousness. His judgments are true and righteous altogether. Yet this same Judge is also our Beloved Father. This same King is also our Beloved Redeemer. This same Ancient of Days is also our Abba, the One who has adopted us into His family through Jesus Christ. He who sits on the throne of judgment has also provided the way of our salvation. He who could condemn us has instead extended mercy and justified us through the blood of His Son.
This is the mystery and the marvel of the gospel: The Ancient of Days, the eternal Judge, has become our loving Father. The One who could rightly pour out His wrath upon us has instead poured out His love. The One before whom we should tremble in fear has invited us to approach Him with bold confidence. The One whose holiness should consume us has instead cleansed and purified us and made us holy. Selah.
The God Who Dwells with His People
"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God." Revelation 21:3
From the very beginning, it has always been God's desire to dwell with His people. In the Garden of Eden, God walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day, enjoying intimate fellowship with them. And when sin entered the world and broke that fellowship, God immediately set in motion a plan to restore it. Throughout the Old Testament, we see God progressively revealing His desire to dwell among His people. We to bear witness of how He gave Moses instructions to build a tabernacle a tent of meeting where His presence would dwell. When the tabernacle was completed, the glory of the Lord filled it, so powerfully that Moses could not even enter. The cloud of God's presence covered the tabernacle by day, and the fire of His glory illuminated it by night. God was dwelling with His people, though separated by a veil, accessible only through the mediation of priests and the blood of sacrifices. Later, Solomon built a magnificent temple in Jerusalem, and again the glory of the Lord filled the house, so that the priests could not stand to minister. God was dwelling with His people, enthroned above the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies, present yet separated, near yet distant. But all of this was merely a type and shadow of something far more greater to come. The tabernacle and the temple were but temporary dwelling places, pointing forwards to the ultimate dwelling place that God so desired, which is not a building nor anything made with our hands. Only He could create the most perfect place for Him to live and abide with His family and that was in the very living temples that He specifically created to be a temple of His holy Spirit and presence with us and in us so much so that the two become as one through the amazing power of His Spirit working mightily in and through us to will and to do for His good pleasure. Selah. Living temples in human hearts mysteriously transformed by His amazing grace.
This is The Ancient of Days, who existed before time ever began, who sits enthroned in unapproachable light, and who dwells in eternity, this same God has chosen to make His dwelling place with us. Not in a tent. Not in a temple. No, in us! We have become His tabernacles, His dwelling places, His living breathing temples. The God who is too great to be contained by the heavens has chosen to dwell in our hearts by His Spirit. This is the staggering reality we must whole heartily grasp: The Ancient of Days inhabits our praises. He dwells in our worship. He makes His home in us, and yes, He sups with us day by day, breath by breath, step by step!
.MEDITATION
Pause and Reflect:
Take a moment to let this truth sink deep into your spirit.
The Ancient of Days, the eternal, unchanging, all powerful Almighty God desired to dwell in you.
You are not merely a worshiper standing at a distance. You are a living tabernacle, a dwelling place for the Most High God. How does this change your understanding of who you really are?
How does this affect the way you view your daily life?
How should this truth transform the way you worship?
Prayer:
Ancient of Days, I am overwhelmed by the reality that You have chosen to dwell and live in me.
I am but dust and ashes, yet You have made me Your temple. I am weak and frail, yet You have filled me with Your Spirit. I am unworthy, yet You have cleansed me and made me holy. Therefore help me to live in a blessed state of constant awareness of Your holy presence within me. Help me to honor You as the One who dwells mightily in my heart. Make me a worthy dwelling place for Your presence and glory, in Jesus name I pray Thee. Amen.
